Who We Are

Our staff have more than forty-five years experience in the helping field as both service providers and service users. We have been using computers in our work for more than 12 years, and have been on the internet since 1986, and on the WEB since 1992.

We ourselves are mostly interested in what has become known as holistic practices. We recognize the value of traditional approaches and we support alternatives. We created the Directory of Healing Arts and Sciences to reflect this interest. We are also very interested in mentoring so we created the Directory of Mentorship. Mostly we are interested in helping people make the best decisions for the circumstances they find themselves in and we want service providers to get connected to clients they can help.

You can contact us directly at Helpful@islandnet.com.

Each month we leave a quote or thought here that reflects our perspectives: This month the quote comes from Portia Nelson as cited in the book Healing the Child Within by Charles L. Whitfield, M.D. (Orlando, FL: Health Communications, 1989).

Autobiography in Five Chapters

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost . . . I am hopeless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I'm in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I see it is there.
I still fall in . . . it's a habit
My eyes are open
I know where I am
it is my fault.
I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.
