We Need Qualified Reviewers Because of the attention these reviews have gained and because of the large number of visitors to the Peer Resources web site, publishers and authors typically provide materials for review to Peer Resources. While not all materials received by Peer Resources are of sufficient quality to achieve placement in one of its Top Resources pages, all materials are reviewed and the results are included in: (1) the Peer Resources Annotated Bibliography and (2) the current literature section of each field (peer assistance, coaching, or mentoring. The number of publications received for review has significantly increased. In order to provide timely reviews Peer Resources relies on members of the Peer Resources Network to use their expertise to review various resources. As a member if you are interested in providing a review, you will receive the material at no cost and you may keep it as your own. The only four conditions are (1) you agree to not sell the work (you can give it away); (2) you write a review and send it by email to Peer Resources; (3) you agree to provide the review within 30 days of receiving the work; and (4) the review is for the exclusive use of Peer Resources (permission to use it for other purposes can be negotiated).
Guidelines for Preparing a Review A review is also more than a critIque and goes beyond describing just the strengths and weaknesses of the work. Our reviews attempt to place the work within a context: how does this work meet the needs of potential readers/listeners/viewers? What circumstances, trends, or practices exist in the field that make this work relevant to practitioners? What benefits will this work have for users? What is special about this work and makes it stand out from others in the field (thus a reviewer must have some knowledge and understanding of what is currently in vogue or available). And if this isn't difficult enough, the review must be short, punchy, readable and engaging. We will provide some editorial help and all reviews are copy edited and approved by our editorial staff. Your name and contact information will be provided with the final published version of the review, unless you request anonymity. Potential reviewers are encouraged to examine the reviews already published on our site to gain a general idea of content and style. If you would like additional ideas, here are three university library websites dedicated to helping people write the best reviews: Writing a Book Review from the Mt. St. Vincent University Library staff; How to Write a Book Review by Queens University Library Staff; and How to Write a Book Review prepared by the University of Lethbridge Library staff. If you're still interested in being a reviewer, here's a list of works waiting for review. To obtain the work for review, just email Rey Carr and if the work is still available for review, he will send you the copy. Regardless of whether Peer Resources uses your review (and they reserve the right to determine the use of your review), the work is yours to keep.
Works Currently Available
Peer Resources has become a respected leader in the field of coaching, mentoring and peer assistance. In part, that respect has been earned as a result of providing unbiased, timely, and high-quality reviews of materials and resources available in each of these fields.
Preparing a review is not an easy task. A review is more than a brief summary of the content (although such a summary would be suitable when we place the information about the work in our Annotated Bibliography section or our current literature sections).
The resources are listed in the order received from the publisher or author. If the title does not clearly reveal the focus area, the letter "C" will be included for coaching: the letter "M" for mentoring; or the letter "P" for peer assistance will appear next to the title. In some instances, the work might be useful as a foundation or support resource for all three areas.
